The highly anticipated open source platform “Android” has finally arrived courtesy of T-mobile which just announced the first Android-powered mobile phone. Android allows all applications open access to the phone’s functionality.

Over a year ago the Open Handset Alliance, comprised of over 30 technology and mobile companies, annouced plans to develop a platform that would facilitate third party applications and development. For more details, check out the official Google blog post.
