Adwords Editor 5.0 – What’s New

Adwords Editor 5.0 was released almost a month ago (12/12/07) and I thought it was time to see what was new about 5.0 that folks around PI found valuable. Here a summary of the feedback:

  • Anecdotally our team feels that Editor posts faster
    • How much – no percentage, but the quote was “a little faster, not a ton faster – so call it 10-15% ???
  • These custom views reside in editor (so if you have editor on multiple machines, these views will not automatically move when you are using a new machine)
  • Saving Custom Views – In advanced search, no new advanced fields (that we noticed), but you can save your view now. You don’t have to keep rerunning the same searches. Here are some that we use internally:
    • Nonconverting Keywords (then you can sort by cost)
    • Keywords above or below a certain cost/conversion threshold
    • Keywords above or below a position threshold
  • Geotargeting
    • You can now adjust geotargeting and multiple language settings in editor which is great for projects where you are mirroring campaign
  • Practical application – If you are getting Geographic conversion data from GA, Omniture, Coremetrics or the like and you find yourself running out budget at the end month, you can then quickly/temporarily retarget that traffic to the best converting geographic areas.
  • You cannot run editor on campaigns running conversion optimizer
  • You can make bid changes on CPM placement targeted campaign but not CPC placement targeted campaigns
